Thoughts of the day.

10And whatever my eyes desired I kept not from them; I withheld not my heart from any pleasure, for my heart rejoiced in all my labor, and this was my portion and reward for all my toil.

11Then I looked on all that my hands had done and the labor I had spent in doing it, and behold, all was vanity and a striving after the wind and a feeding on it, and there was no profit under the sun

Ecc 2: 10 and 11

Here, Solomon is talking about everything that he had done for himself.  He built houses, orchards, had maidservants, more silver and gold than he knew what do do with, concubines, and pools of water to feed his flocks and gardens.  He was doing all of this because he thought that this would bring him riches and wisdom.  But in verse 11, he realizes that it was all done in vain and there was not any Godliness in any of what he had done.

There are times in our lives that we think that if we build all of these great things around us in this world that somehow that will turn into favor in God.  But if we don't have the right heart with it all, it is all done in vain.  It doesn't matter how much money, worldly possessions, or relationships that we have, if they are not done in the right heart we lose ourself to the world and gain nothing with God.  We have made our lives on sand and not on the Rock that was intended for our lives to be made upon.  Soon, these will crumble and fade away and what are we left with?  It becomes a charade of trying to keep everything together, but if we would have formed all upon the relationship with our God, then everything would be held together perfectly.  His will for our lives and ours may not always match up, but when we trust in His plan and what He has for us, nothing will be in vain because we are seeking the face of our Savior, our Father, the perfecter of our will.

26For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life [his blesseda]" [a]life in the kingdom of God]? Or what would a man give as an exchange for his [blessed]b]"[b]life [in the kingdom of God]?

Matthew 16:26

There is nothing more that I want than to build my life on Him.  My Rock.  My Creator.

What is your foundation?
